Meet Starlight, aka our rising Star! Star was raised with a family for two years before she was surrendered to the shelter in SC with no name. They called her “dog,” so the shelter staff gave her a name. She weighs in just under 30 lbs, 2 years old, so she is fully grown. Star arrived in VT with a clean slate. Star’s foster Mom is teaching her some basic obedience which is building up her skill set and confidence. With consistent and confident coaching from her foster, Star is learning to be brave and check in with her people when she is feeling unsure in new situations. She has done well with public outings to Pet Food Warehouse and Lowes. She loves most every …
Sweet India! So social and friendly with people and other dogs, it's hard to understand why this beautiful Lab mix girl ended up a stray, along with her three 8-week old litter mates, and left to grow up in a shelter. India is now approximately 7 months old , 27 lbs, and is happily settling in her foster home while she waits to join the loving family she deserves. India’s foster Mom says that she is so sweet and affectionate, loves loves people and children. Due to her energy and playfulness, she does need to be reminded of her manners when she gets excited around small children and responds well to direction. India has good leash skills and would make a great walking and hiking …
Meet Willa, a playful and affectionate 10-12 month old black lab mix with a heart full of love and spunky personality! At just 35 pounds, Willa is on the smaller side, making her a nice, compact size for an active household where she will have opportunities to run, play, explore, and then settles nicely in the house for some couch time and a good movie. Willa loves playing with other dogs and joining in on pack walks, so she’d be a great fit for a home with a canine sibling. She’s also known for being exceptionally good off-leash and has a special love for water. While Willa is incredibly sweet and loves people, she can be nervous around younger children, so she would do best …
We have our lovely boy Scout available for adoption and ready to interview some families! Scout is a very handsome Golden Lab mix of just about a year old, and about 50 pounds. He was found as a stray. We are always surprised when a dog like him is not claimed! He’s a happy, funny, goofball who after spending months in the shelter is now enjoying the experience of truly being a dog! He is being fostered with a Canine Camp in Monkton, VT and has made many friends of all sizes and ages. He is curious of all new pups and tries hard to make friends in a respectful way, always inviting play and the chase game. Scout is learning some basic skills, he …
Meet Cinnamon Bun aka Bunny! At approximately 1-year old and 25 lbs, Bunny is our pint-size hound/spaniel? mix (best guess). We have been so lucky to foster her since she arrived in VT on November 3. A bit shy at first, after a day or two of getting settled, sleeping her little heart out, and feeling more comfortable, she truly is lovely and a blast to be around. We think she is the sweetest kiddo! Once she connects to her people, she will use her voice to communicate in the most adorable and endearing way. She doesn’t really ‘bark’ and will usually retreat when feeling uncomfortable or unsure. We have been teaching her to retreat behind her person until she feels safe or is welcomed …
Let’s talk about Franny Bean! Our sweet, beautiful Hound girl is the total package! Great with all people, kids, and other dogs. In her former foster home she ignored the chickens and fox out back of the house. Franny is house trained when given regular potty breaks, crate trained, and at meal time will perform a little tap dance to ensure you know she’s ready and on her best behavior. Her foster Mom is working with her on basic obedience skills, recall, and loose leash walking. Franny would make a nice companion for another friendly dog or dogs in her new home. Franny is a wonderful, all-around companion dog as she will happily greet you when you come home and will be your listening ear …
If you are looking for a walking companion, or a buddy to join you for some hiking or outdoor adventure, Ringo Starr is ready and waiting to hit the trails! Ringo might look like a larger dog in the pictures, but at approximately 3 years old this compact, rugged outdoorsman is on the smaller side at 35 lbs and about knee height. Goofy and sweet, Ringo is playful and respectful of other canine friends. As you can see, he loves hiking, has AMAZING recall, great off leash and has solid leash skills as well. He is house and crate trained, good when left alone at home, and always up for a good cuddle session when you return. Ringo can be nervous around new people, so …
Meet Palmer! He is the last pup up for adoption from the litter of 6 found abandoned on the side of the road in Brookfield, VT. Palmer’s foster Mom says that he takes the smartest puppy award. He is super food motivated and a professional problem solver. All this combined makes him super trainable. He already has a wonderful foundation of skills under his paws….sit, down, go to bed (his crate), and loose leash walking. This medium energy boy loves his people, is good with kids, a bit shy with strangers but warms up quickly if you share some tasty treats. He’s all about a good time but does settle wonderfully, and enjoys a nice cuddle session. He is happy to entertain himself with a …
Meet Liam, our snuggle bug and sweet, gentle 'ole soul! Once the petting starts, it should never ever end if he had his way. Liam is the smallest pup of the Brookfield Six found abandoned on the side of the road in VT. Once discarded like trash, he has left his former life behind and thriving with the stability and consistency of his foster home, building his confidence and skills to help him successfully transition to a permanent family. He loves playing with toys and his brother Palmer, also searching for a family of his own. Smart and eager to learn, Liam is very food motivated making him fun and easy to train. Liam would love a home where he will be part of the …
Meet Miss Clover! Our beautiful, mellow pitty mix was rescued from the Urgent list due to too much time at the shelter, treated for heartworms, and transported to Vermont. She was placed with one of our dedicated foster homes where she is enjoying the company of other dogs, outdoor adventures, and building some life skills. Clover is approximately 2-years old and the perfect size at 40 lbs. As much as she loves going for daily walks, she equally loves cozy couch time, belly rubs, and snuggling in bed. She is good on and off-leash, preferring to stay close to her people. Clover gets along well with other dogs and doesn’t mind sharing her space with feline friends either. In addition to being fully house-trained and …
Percy has quite the story to tell! This boy has come a long way since he got loose after his owner passed away, was struck by a car, and finally captured the day after Thanksgiving last year. An amazing foster family took Percy in after being on the run for over two weeks, offering him a safe, quiet resting place, medical care, and lots of love and support throughout his recovery. He was scraped and bruised, and emaciated, needing 5-6 very small feedings a day to help him survive and regain weight. He was completely shut down. We learned that, in his former life, Percy was part of a sled dog operation and sadly lived life on a chain outside year-round, having very limited contact …
Got Kiddos? How about Kitties? Other doggos too? That's A-OK! How about a loving home for a tender hearted sweet fella? Meet BURDOCK! He’s a handsome, solid pup weighing in at about 45 pounds and about 10 months old.. He has been with his foster family here in Vermont settling in quite nicely with both his canine foster siblings and the family kiddos! He also has a feline friend in the home which has been a great mentor for him learning all things kitty, including the important feline respect. BURDOCK is a tender hearted guy with a side of "goofy"! He has a playful side with both the people and kiddos in his family, and with his canine foster siblings. He even has a playful, …
So many great things to say about JACK! Jack has been with his foster family and in a training program for over 2 months now and we’ve learned all things that make Jack a happy guy. He’s about 2 years old, under 40 pounds, and below our knee level. His head and body are of a regular sized dog and his legs are those of maybe a basset hound. He's like a fun cartoon character! He is currently being fostered at a canine camp. He came with zero social skills with both people and other dogs, but has now flourished with proper teaching and introduction. Jack now has many friends of all sizes, shapes and ages. He still needs “a moment” and proper introduction with …
Meet Elia!!!🥰🥰🥰 Elia is hoping she only needs to interview for a forever home one last time. Elia is a small, 14lb, 2 year old little girl who just needs to find the right family. Elia is cute, cuddly and graceful. She leaps and bounds like a small gazelle or baby deer. She loves playing with squeaky toys. She loves her people and thrives with a well rounded relationship with her people. She prefers women and will completely attach to her female human, but actually does best when treated equally among her pup siblings and other humans. She may tolerate a man in her home, but she will need to interview the potential men in her life and those men should not expect to be …
Meet Raven, our sweet Foxhound mix! Once listed as CODE RED at a shelter in North Carolina and in danger of being euthanized, volunteers both near and far sprung into action to quickly hatch a plan to rescue Raven. With the help of friends of the shelter, a generous offer from Coonhound Companions “Project Hound” to sponsor all of her vetting needs, and Transport making room for Raven, she arrived safe and sound in Vermont and is enjoying the good life in a stable foster home while waiting to unite with a family she deserves. Raven arrived at the shelter as a stray so we do not have any information about her former life. We do know that Raven is a nice, medium sized girl …
Our handsome boy EVANDER has joined our group of pups that have been in foster homes here in Vermont and now ready to interview for families of their very own. EVANDER is our gorgeous, chocolate colored boy aged at just under 1 year and weighs in at just under 50 pounds. He has settled in nicely with his foster home that consists of 2 other dogs, respectful kiddos, a visiting kitty and lots of visitors coming and going. He is a very happy, excited guy who loves to meet new canine friends and people alike. He is known to love piles of dogs and/or people and will be found on top, underneath or tangled within. He’s a draper, a cuddler and a bed hog. He …
Are you looking for a new best friend and adventure partner? Lucky Ducky is searching for a family to call his own. His foster Mom cannot express just how amazing he is. He had a vet appointment for a pesky ear infection and was phenomenal (the vet techs adore him). We went to the feed store for the first time and he walked perfect on leash, sniffed, never tried to take anything off the shelves, he even got to pick out a lovely new toy….although he couldn’t quite understand how everyone walked by him as he sat gazing with those big “pet me puppy eyes”. I then had to run into a few stores and he happily laid down to nap the entire time I …
Calling all hound lovers! Tucker, our Black & Tan Coonhound mix, came all the way from an overcrowded shelter in South Carolina to find a family to love and call his own. While Tucker does not bay or howl which is typical of hounds, his voice carries when he gets excited so he is not a good candidate for apartment living. He would love a home with some space and freedom of a fenced in yard to romp off-leash. If you are looking for a walking companion, look no further as Tucker walks nicely on leash and looks forward to daily walks with neighbors and canine friends. Then he is quite content to lounge and snooze on the couch for the rest of the day. …
Brindle Baby Beta Little 3 month old Beta came to Vermont all the way from the Caribbean island of St. Croix. Beta was found with her litter mates in the jungle of the St. Croix rainforest. Her parents are unknown, but based on her age and current weight, we expect her to be 40-ish lbs when full grown. She is a beautiful orange, brindle color with thick fluffy medium length fur. Beta is spunky and sassy. She loves exploring and playing with her foster siblings. She loves teething toys, rope toys, and stuffies. She loves chasing a ball around the house and will engage in play with humans and her dog siblings. While she does enjoy her dog siblings, she also is independent and does …
We are now introducing our little gal ORCHID who is ready to meet a permanent family of her own. She came into our partner shelter in South Carolina as a stray and surprisingly nobody came to claim her. She’s a beautiful little lady and was lucky to spend some time in a temporary foster home in South Carolina while we made all the vet and transport arrangements to have her come to Vermont to join one of our foster families here. This has given her the chance to unwind, decompress and also gives us a bit of time to learn about her and what her needs are for an ideal match with family. What do we know about little ORCHID? She has the sweetest little …
Look at this little Cutie! Her name is Queenie…. She arrived from our partner shelter with her pretty mama Quinn! This little lady stepped off transport ready to explore the world. She is learning to be a confident young girl at almost 3 months old. She is about 11 pounds, her mama, full grown is 30 pounds, so we think little Queenie will be similar to her mama in size when she’s adult. She is smart and learns direction quickly. She has a few great canine mentors in her home, some to teach her manners and respect and the other to teach her how to adventure around the woods. She even has feline friends that she has come to respect, love and cuddle with. Queenie …
We are re-introducing this lovely lady GEMMA! She has been with one of our lovely foster homes since September and has settled in nicely and has shown us what a true GEM she really is! She is a well-balanced, happy girl who enjoys taking each day in stride. Gemma is at an ideal weight of 65 pounds. She is poetry in motion when she runs and as gentle as can be with the kiddos and grand-kiddos always visiting. Gemma also lives with 2 canine siblings which she gets along great with, but she would also do well being a singleton. She loves one on one attention and if offered a lap, she will not think twice about keeping it warm. Kitties? Not a problem, she …
Say hello Ringo Starr, the goofy, 2yr old wonder pup! Ringo has been settling in nicely with his new foster mom in VT, and now ready to interview a family to call his own. He may look like a larger dog in the pics and even has a deep big dog bark, but this little cutie is on the smaller side at about 35 pounds and knee height! Your guess is as good as ours on what breed he is, but what we do know that he's a fun loving guy who enjoys cozy couch time and belly rubs as much as he does a long romp in the woods. He's even been working on his off leash skills and likes to stay close to …
We’d like to introduce you to LEXI! The pretty red headed girl with the golden eyes. She is a 1-year-old, 45 lb. female – perfect size & great age. We don’t know much about Lexi’s past, except that she was a stray wandering the streets in South Carolina before she was picked up by our rescue partner. Lexi loves people. She politely engages and hopes for some pets. She likes to be near you or on top of you (if you allow it) but she is not the type to have to be at your side 100% of the time. She is respectful of your space but if allowed she would like to lounge on the couch with you or sit at your feet. We …
We have some lovely black pups we are introducing and are available here in Vermont to meet approved adopters. Shiloh! He’s a very nice fella with a sweet demeanor at about 45 pounds and 1 year (ish) old. He was unfortunate to spend some of this short life behind shelter walls, but one of the lucky ones to find himself to our rescue family. He’s been living with two other dogs and is very respectful and is socially appropriate. He matches playstyles with a mix of tug, chase and wrestling. He shares toys nicely, respectful during mealtimes and enjoys his crate as his “bedroom”. He sleeps in his crate and enjoys being in there when the family leaves the home. He is housebroken and walks …
