More About Candy Apple

Meet Ms. Candy Apple! Affectionately called Apple by her foster family, this one-year old beauty weighing in at about 45 lbs is from the tropical Caribbean Island of St. Croix. Apple was found wandering the streets and won the rescue dog lottery when she was picked up by her foster and flew with her to Vermont for a better chance at finding a forever home. She has been well cared for and loved in her foster home since last December. While in St. Croix it’s likely that Apple did not have adequate socialization with humans as a young pup making her a bit timid meeting new people. She does wonderful meeting new people in public spaces, but is stressed with unfamiliar visitors to her foster home and safe space. Apple is searching for a patient and understanding family that will provide her with lots of positive reinforcement support and guidance when strangers visit, and have a plan for introducing her to home visitors that will help her feel safe and win over her trust.

Apple is a spunky, energetic gal that would thrive with an active family where her people would be home much of the time. Apple does great in public, some of the things that she really enjoys is squeaky toys, sticks, creeks or water to walk through, walks, hiking or romping in the woods, and even long car rides. Apple never strays far from her person's side when off leash on walks in private areas and comes when called. She does well leash walking, though she is quite strong and uses a gentle leader to reduce pulling.

When Apple is in a comfortable environment, she is a happy snuggly loving girl with her people. A well-balanced doggy sibling to play with and be a positive role model would help boost her confidence. She is very smart, fully house and crate-trained and knows sit and other basic commands. She does well in her crate when home alone and will be happy to sleep in your bed, in a crate or on the bedroom floor in a dog bed, she is not picky.
