More About FANGO

Our Gentle Giant, stunningly handsome Great Pyrnees FANGO is now ready to share a laid-back life with a laid back family. We offered him a place with our Rescue after he devoted his companionship to his owner dad who unfortunately passed away. Being the loyal guardian Fango is, he was found by the side of his owner waiting for someone to arrive. No other family or friends were available to take Fango into their home, so the shelter offered him a place until we could arrange transport to Vermont.

He has now been here in Vermont settling in with a temporary foster family providing a place to decompress, learn a new world and be a bridge to a new family for Fango.
We can describe Fango as a cool, level headed, mellow with a bit of a reserved demeanor. He is gracious, gentle, and patient with other people of the household. Although he is big and fluffy, and he tolerates being hugged by the children of the home, his preference would to be by your side watching the world go by with gentle stroking or brushing. He graciously volunteers himself as the household watchman of the yard, scanning for any suspicious activity. He would enjoy idling his days away covertly overseeing his domain from a chosen vantage point.

In the home Fango is very respectful of space, he likes structure in the home and finds comfort in his “den” (x-large crate) when strangers visit or uneasy about something new. Other times you will find him on the couch and ready to join you watching a good movie. He can be attentive and affectionate without any hyperactivity or overly demanding of attention. He is a low energy, chill kinda guy both indoors and outdoors. He even has little/no reaction to the resident kitty.

Fango is happy to join you in the car, he is calm and cool in the local pet food store or a Lowe’s like atmosphere. He will look to you for support when meeting other dogs/people, preferring to be in the background and having other dogs/people mind their own business. He does well with leisurely strolls and as he gains more confidence in his new area, the sniffari strolls could get longer in duration.

If you are laid back, not needing an avid hiker or agility star and can be a supportive leader and Fango’s captain, you will enjoy a harmonious and intuitive kind of loyalty this gentle giant breed has been known for.

Fango’s ideal family unit would be with a single person or couple with a laid-back lifestyle. A large fenced in yard is a must for this fella as it is part of his “job” to patrol and will need boundaries to keep him from patrolling what he deems his territory. A person(s) who enjoys leisurely walks, maybe some camping trips, a garden partner, but most of all, enjoys hanging outdoors watching the world go by. Another laid back canine friend could also be part of Fango’s world. Fango’s favorite person in his foster home happens to be his foster dad at 6’4” tall! He obviously remembers his special bond with his original owner who was a man.

We are looking forward to matching Fango with his next partner(s) in life. If you would like to learn more or meet Fango, please take some time to fill out our application at the link below. Fango is being fostered in Colchester, VT
