More About Holly

Our sweet and sensitive girl Holly was rescued from a shelter in the south where she stood no chance of being adopted as she is shy and fearful of strangers and had to be carried out of her kennel area, the only place where she felt safe. We do not know anything about her past or whether her fear is a product of neglect/abuse, improper socialization, or perhaps her makeup....it's most likely a combination of these factors. Now that she is out of the shelter and in a foster home, we have learned that with time, patience, and a quiet space to retreat to when she feels uncomfortable, she slowly warms up to her people, is gaining trust, and is learning how wonderful it is to be loved and be part of a family.

Holly would do best in a quiet home with an active person or couple who is patient and understanding, who would continue to help develop her trust in humans, provide stability and routine, teach her skills to engage her mind, and show her how much fun people and life can be. Holly is food motivated, loves to learn new skills, enjoys the companionship of another dog and would do fine with cats too. She likes the water and would be a great walking or hiking companion in quieter areas, with someone who doesn’t mind that she isn't much of a social butterfly with humans. We believe she is approximately 10 months old, a young and beautiful shepherd/retriever mix, who has so much love and companionship to offer a family who will allow her to blossom at her own pace and would not expect too much from her too soon.

If you are ready to open your home and heart and be her angel, we will provide you with guidance from one of our supporting trainers who we would make available as she transitions to life with a new family. Please visit our website at www.longtraildogs.org and fill in our adoption questionnaire.
