More About Hazel

Hazel and her brother Gomez were delivered to the shelter in Darlington, SC in February 2021 when they lost their home due to no fault of their own. At the end of April, Hazel made the trip to Vermont and has enjoyed settling in to her foster home and learning some new skills. Hazel currently lives with an 8 year old playful staffy mix, and a 13 year old laid back pittie mix, and does a great job listening to feedback from the resident dogs and adjusting her approach accordingly. She has a very lean athletic body and loves to hike, play fetch, do parkour, dabble with agility, and jog/walk around the neighborhood.

Hazel is searching for an active home and would love to have a fenced in yard to race around. She enjoys playing and socializing with dogs and would love to have a dog or more in her new home. She is shy around people that don't live with her and feels most comfortable when allowed to set the pace for greeting and getting to know new people. Once she is comfortable with her people, Hazel is goofy, energetic, and awkwardly cuddling, similar to a middle school aged student. Hazel is crate trained and spends time in her crate when her people are not around. She is house trained and does her business quickly either in the fenced in yard or while out on a leashed walk. Whether walking around the neighborhood on a 6 foot leash or hiking on a long line, Hazel has excellent leash manners.

Hazel is food and toy motivated, very smart, and enjoys learning/training. She has completed Level 1 Life Skills and is currently moving through a Level 2 Life Skills through Paws 4 Training and doing very well in the class setting. Hazel is currently being treated for heartworm and Long Trail Canine Rescue will assist with remaining treatment needs. Approximately 1-2 years old, 60 lbs.
