More About MAMA ELLEN

Mama Ellen! This beautiful 2-3 yr old coonhound mix has quite the story that has brought her to where she is today. Last year, she was left at a high kill shelter (heartworm positive and ready to give birth. This mama had TEN puppies IN the shelter! One of our foster mom’s quickly stepped up and offered to foster Mama Ellen and her newly born 10 pups so they didn’t have to be in the shelter any longer.

Ten puppies is a lot for a single mom, but Ellen was a trooper and raised all ten to be very happy, healthy and social pups who are all now thriving in their new homes. This left Mama Ellen ready to start her heartworm treatment. It was several months to complete the treatment and again Mama Ellen was strong through it all and has recovered beautifully. She is now ready for a family of her very own to love and be loved.

Mama Ellen is one of those pups who adores attention. She will lean right in for as much love as one can give. She doesn’t pick and choose who can give her attention, anybody is welcome to come in for pets, belly rubs and butt scratches. Mama Ellen is about 50 pounds, but will still be a lap dog for whoever willing.

She has been living with her foster family for quite some time including kiddos and other dogs. She is good with kids, but she’s 50 pounds of body wiggle which could easily knock down smaller children. She has done with the other dogs, knows social manners and has played appropriately. She has good leash skills and would also love an open field to run in once recall is achieved. A fenced in yard would be a bonus.

Mama Ellen is housebroken, crate trained and LOVES her toys. She is very food motivated which is always helpful for training sessions. She is smart, learns quickly and is eager to please.

If you are a family looking for the unconditional love of a hound, Mama Ellen would be eager to fill that position. She is being fostered in Shoreham, VT.
