Rover

Rover

Rover is a real gem. This six month old Southern boy has adapted so quickly to life up north and loves playing in the snow. He is a truly gentle, mellow guy, as far as puppies go! He is fully potty trained, and crate trained. He spends a good deal of his time sleeping on the couch or lounging by the woodstove. He plays really well with other dogs and people of all ages from infants (so gentle!) all the way on up. His favorite thing ever is just to be near a human, so his ideal home would have ample amounts of companionship time. He knows sit, lay down, off, come, and is working on stay. He walks well on a leash and LOVES

SOPHIE

SOPHIE

Sophie, our black beauty pitty who is looking for that special person/family who understands the love of Pitt Bull. Sophie is petite for her breed at 40 pounds. She is about 2 years old and has been through at least 2 homes during her young life, not including foster homes. Sophie was recently returned to our rescue by her adopters after 9 months. During that time, while walking Sophie on a leash, Sophie was attacked by an off leash dog causing multiple wounds and a trip to the vet. Since that time, Sophie has become cautious of other dogs and was feeling trapped on a leash, resulting in barking at oncoming dogs. The owner was not comfortable having Sophie on her walks anymore and decided

Wally

Wally

How Wally ended up as a stray wandering in a Walgreens parking lot we will never know. He is a super sweet little guy….good with children, other dogs, and while curious, he is respectful of cats. He would love to share a home with another doggy companion. Everyone who meets Wally says he is super smart, fun, energetic, and loves to play, play, play! His foster Mom says he is treat motivated, knows basic commands (sit, lie down, come), and would be a fun dog to train in agility. He also has nice house manners, is crate trained, and walks well on-leash. If you are looking for a smaller dog with some get up and go, but one that is also affectionate, snuggly, and loves

SKYE BLUE

SKYE BLUE

SKYE BLUE! If those stunning blue eyes don't melt your heart in an instant, Skye's lovely personality will! Sky was a street pup in Costa Rica until she was brought to a lovely foster home in Costa Rica where she was brought in, taken care of, loved, received veterinary care (vaccines, spayed, dewormed) by our wonderful supporting local vet. Skye Blue waited a few months with her foster mom in Costa Rica while we arranged for a ticket on a plane to come to Vermont with one of our Vermont foster mom's! She will arrive at the end of January, 2019 and be fostered in Rutland, VT. Skye Blue is a dog that loves everyone. She would love it if every person would come say

LEVI

LEVI

This is our handsome, mature fella named LEVI! Levi is at least 7 years old and was surrendered to the shelter by an owner claiming he could no longer care for him. He was surrendered with heartworms and poor skin condition making it easy for people to overlook this soulful gentleman. His eyes tell a probably story of a not so wonderful past for Levi and sometimes the day these dogs are brought to the shelter is the day that their lives will actually change for the better. This is why we offered rescue to this sweet older fella. The shelter is no place for an older soul to spend his days. Levi has now been treated for his heartworms and is recovering beautifully. He

Mia

Mia

Picked up as a stray, Mia landed in the shelter where her family never came for her. She is settling into a foster home and experiencing just how wonderful it is to be in a warm and loving environment for the first time ever. What we have learned about Mia....she has discovered the fun of toys, she is good with cats and other dogs, house trained, she is not food aggressive, but is food motivated, she's good with being crated, and will sleep through the night. Mia is shy when she first meets new people and other dogs, Once she is comfortable in a new environment though, she is more energetic and playful. Her foster Mom is exposing her to different situations that will help

Ciera

Ciera

Ciera is such a fun pup, people friendly, a sweet, happy girl, always with a smile on her face! She was found as a stray and brought to the shelter where she passed her cat test, was good with other dogs, and she was kid tested and approved by a junior volunteer. Ciera is in a foster home now where she is learning the ropes of living in a home, getting accustomed to her crate, working on housetraining, walking on a harness, and learning some basic obedience and manners. Ciera is an energetic girl who would love an active family that has the time to continue training and can give her outlets for exercise and play time. We think Ciera is an older puppy, not

BERTHA

BERTHA is our bright and brilliant 3 year old JRT/Whippet? mix! This lovely girl has been loved and raised by her family since 4 months old. She is a smart pup that has learned many skills including sit, sit pretty, touch, lay down, roll over, bed, stay, settle, paw through and over! She would be happy and excited to demonstrate her repertoire of tricks! Bertha's family recently had a child and even though the family did everything to prepare Bertha for a new addition, Bertha simply is not comfortable around the little kiddo and has become uneasy, stressed and not understanding how she fits in. This family hired trainers and have seen vets hoping for a solution for Bertha, but all have agreed that Bertha

GAIA

GAIA

GAIA! A Beautiful (2yr old) blend of Golden/Catahoula who causes heads to turn when people see her. She looks much like a Golden with many traits of Golden, but also has those mesmerizing blue eyes that catch your immediate attention. Gaia came to our Rescue after being left at the shelter (with a heart full of worms) and with her litter of pups to care for. We were happy to make arrangements for her to come to Vermont and into a wonderful foster home where she was able to properly care for and raise her beautiful pups! All her pups have since found wonderful homes. Gaia has been treated for and has recovered from her heartworm treatment and is now ready to find her own

MYLES

MYLES

You will not find a sweeter dog than little MYLES. This little guy is about 1 year old and is only 17 pounds. We call him our pocket sized lab. He is a shy guy, but with just a little coaxing and some good treats he warms up nicely. He is a big cuddler and loves to snuggle on the couch and definitely a good companion in the bed to keep you warm during the cooler nights! We think MYLES would enjoy another well adjusted dog in the home to help him continue to gain some confidence. He also does well with kitties. He would be good in a home with structure, lots of time to play games, and of course some time outdoors. He

Leo

Leo

Here is what the shelter had to say about our Leo…. he’s one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever had at the shelter. He’s very quiet and laid back. He is a little timid on a leash. He just needs to build some confidence. He’s great with other dogs and he’s great with cats. He just really is a sweet sweet soul. I love him. I feel like he probably didn’t have the best life. He deserves to be cherished pet who knows what it is like to live inside of a house with a real family. Leo is out of the shelter and he is settling into one of our dedicated foster homes here in Vermont where he is receiving much needed love and

GABBY

GABBY

Meet Gabby- A stunningly beautiful Catahoula dog mix she features half blue/ half brown eyes, the softest blue and brown coat and an expressive and loving personality. Gabby is just over a year old and much like many other dogs in our southern shelters she didn’t get the best start in life. She and her 6 siblings were allowed to be mostly feral until they were 7 months old when they were brought to the shelter by a good samaritan. Unsocialized and fearful when she first arrived Gabby has been in a foster home since July. When she first arrived she was too scared to come out of her crate and fearful of all people. During the months in foster care she has begun to

Beignet

Beignet

Just like the famed French pastry found in New Orleans, this Beignet is sweet, rich (with personality), and has a dusting of powdered sugar on her nose. Beignet is a 50 lb, approximately 6 years old, brindle-colored mixed breed. She lived with a foster family in South Carolina who reported she was very good with other dogs and children. She arrived in VT on September 8th and has been fostered in a home with a resident male elderbull. Beignet is excited to meet all guests young and old and has enjoyed low-key slower-paced play with her elderbull buddy. Beignet does not jump, has a very polite greeting, rarely barks, and walks on a leash without pulling. She enjoys scouting for squirrels on walks (occasionally needs

GINA

GINA

Gina was born to a shelter mom who unfortunately died shortly after giving birth. Gina was immediately placed into a loving foster home where she was raised with kind people and doggie friends. Gina had an adopter waiting for her when she was old enough, but it because apparent that there was something going on with her potty training and continuous dribbling of urine. It took some time for the proper diagnosis and after seeing multiple vets and finally a specialist, we were excited to find out that this was a physical problem and not behavioral and was was treatable with surgery. Volunteers and Donors put together the funds needed for Gina to have her surgery which she went through like a trooper and the

ANDY

ANDY

ANDY is our lovely and oh so handsome, Chessie that has been turned over by his owners due to a change in family dynamics. This boy has SO much love to give and thrives when he can be around his people. He is excellent with other dogs, kids and people. He is housebroken, has excellent manners indoors and outdoors. True to the breed, Andy LOVES the water, he loves to retrieve and he loves outdoor adventure. He is 8 years old and has many more years of love to give, cuddles to be had, games to play and tons of fun in the water. What Andy really needs.... a true family of his own. He needs to know that he will not be abandoned again.

CARLOS

CARLOS

Young, happy and full of life! CARLOS is just under a year old and this boy is all about bringing as much joy to the day as possible. He is an exceptional companion, enjoys being with people as much as other dogs. He has been excellent off leash and on. He is smart, learning manners quickly and takes good social queues from other dogs. He is about 25 pounds and we don't think he will get much bigger, maybe he will fill out a little more as he matures, but he's a nice size for a hiking companion as well as a couch snuggler. He loves toys, balls and sticks. He would be an ideal friend for an active couple, or an active family with

Brooklyn

Brooklyn

Some of Brooklyn’s favorite things are running through the woods, playing fetch with a tennis ball, swimming, a peanut butter filled Kong or bone, and snuggle time. She is definitely an active girl but can also spend time by herself while her family is away and has nice house manners. She can be little anxious around unfamiliar visitors, but will eventually settle in as she gets used to new people. With some time and training she could be a skilled leash walker as she is smart and aims to please her people. Brooklyn literally smiles when you pet her or when she’s enjoying herself and is a girl with many talents….she can catch a treat when balanced on her nose, play dead, sit, give a
